6. Religion in the United States Of America

The United States of America is a country deeply rooted in religious freedom. As a result, the citizens have complete freedom to practice the religion of their choice. As such, America, as a whole, does not identify itself with one particular religion, and so you will find people of all religions living in harmony.

The United States of America has been described as a “protestant nation” by a number of commentators. A majority (65%) of the adult population in 2019 is Christian, with 43% belonging to the Protestant denomination, 20% to the Catholic denomination, and 2% to the Mormon denomination. Approximately one-quarter of the population does not identify with any religion.

However, Christianity is the most prevalent religion in the United States and half of them identify as Protestants and a small portion identify as Catholic. Some Christians identify as non-denominational or a smaller subset of Christianity. There are so many others that identify with Hinduism, Islam, and Mormonism, making America a diverse melting pot of cultures. Americans see religion as a part of their identity and it is a prevalent topic of discussion.
